If you think Jono Fernandez is a new Australian producer on the rise, think again. Over the last decade, Jono has released a steady stream of just over 50 singles and remixes on some of the world's most respected dance music labels including Global Underground, One Love and Ministry of Sound. He's also remixed for more than twenty artists including Groove Armada, Dirty Vegas, Delphic, Mory Kante, SIA, Sarah McLeod and Bertie Blackman, with a number of his remixes hitting the top 10 in the ARIA club charts.
He's a rare dance music artist that combines fifteen years of studio experience (Jono started producing electronic music at the tender age of 15) with a strong background in classical training. (he's also an exceptional player of many instruments) The result of this talent is an extensive discography jammed with dancefloor bombs covering big room house and tech-house, progressive house, breakbeat, electronic indie/pop and techno. Its little wonder that over the years his releases have garnered support from a broad range of some of the world's biggest names in dance music. Axwell, John Digweed, Dave Seaman, James Zabiela, Hernan Cattaneo, Plump Djs, Anthony Pappa, TV Rock, Meat Katie, Kid Kenobi and Phil K are just a handful of his compatriots that have been loving, playing and pushing Jono Fernandez releases over the past decade via charts, radio plays and features on global compilations.
His collaborations are equally as diverse as his releases. Over the years Jono's jumped in the studio with Vance Musgrove from Aston Shuffle fame, Lot 49's Meat Katie and Dylan Rhymes, Luke Chable, Seany B, Tom Piper, and even Marvin Priest. (Yes, that's Maxi's son) In recent years, he's regularly collaborated with Tim Watson, former front man of ARIA Award winning, ARIA chart topping pop rock band Taxi Ride. The outcome of this studio buddy-hood has resulted in a top 10 ARIA Club Chart single (Girl vs Boy, scheduled for a re-release on Get Down Recordings in early 2012) and the formation of a new indie/electronic/band side project, Friends of Mine. Although its early days on this new outfit, the future is promising for Friends of Mine with radio plays and various advertising synchs already coming their way. These early achievements mind you were prior to the release of their debut “Are You Looking” EP released in 2011.
His collaboration with Australian songstress Katrina Noorbergen of indie band Cassette Kids resulted in a massive main room record called Hear Me. Australian dance music powerhouse One Love certainly heard this monster, signing it swiftly and releasing it in May 2011. It came with a stellar remix package featuring mixes from John Dahlback, Digital Lab, Dave Winnel, The Immigrant and Tass. In July 2011, it sat nicely at #3 on the ARIA club charts, being the highest charting Australian record, with only Swedish House Mafia and Martin Solveig ahead of it for the coveted number 1 position. His forthcoming single featuring Twin Atoms “Lights Are Fading” is sure to set dancefloors and charts alight with remixes from Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl, Bass Kleph, Christian Luke and MaRlo.
As impressive as Jono's achievements in the studio is his live show. Much like his early start in the studio, Jono was well ahead of the curve in his choice of performance mode. Ditching vinyl for CDs then moving completely over to Ableton Live as far back as 2002, his live performances need to be seen to be believed. Playing live on Ableton with MIDI controllers, drum pads, keyboards and samplers, his shows are a two hour plus epic journey through melodic techno, house and progressive. Luckily, given Jono Fernandez' current music mission, it won't be too long before you experience the journey with him.
